Engine wont turn by hand with transmission bolted all the way in
Hello everyone, I’m currently having an issue with my engine after swapping out my blown d16y8 with a 100k mile d16y8. My issue is that the engine does not want to turn if i have the transmission all the way bolted in. If i back off the bolts a bit then it rotates fine. Also, i turned the shaft in the transmission by hand and there was nothing wrong with it. When i crank it i hear a noise of something hitting something else as well. Can anyone help me with this? Much appreciated.
Re: Engine wont turn by hand with transmission bolted all the way in
Manual transmission. If it helps, the engine was previously in an automatic. While it is the same issue, I’ve figured out that its something when the transmission is bolted in all the way, my old post was getting no attention so I thiught to make another thread.
Re: Engine wont turn by hand with transmission bolted all the way in
Did you use manual trans flywheel bolts?
Did you install the clutch disc the correct way?
Did you use a new pilot bearing?
Where is the noise you vaguely describe coming from?
Re: Engine wont turn by hand with transmission bolted all the way in
The noise is kind of hard to pinpoint, but its coming from somewhere in the transmission. I might have accodentally used auto bolts when reassembling, Ill check it out when I have a day off.
Re: Engine wont turn by hand with transmission bolted all the way in
I also just checked my extra set if flywheel bolts, on the top of the bolt it says AT. This means that those are the ones to the automatic flex plate yes? If so then I guess thats not my problem.
Re: Engine wont turn by hand with transmission bolted all the way in
I would still recheck what you've done since the trans isn't on. Yes the bolt says AT for automatic transmission. Shift the trans manually with a screwdriver through the shift rod.
Re: Engine wont turn by hand with transmission bolted all the way in
So I did all you said to do, transmission seems fine. I also removed my clutch and flywheel and just reinstalled it again, reapplying threadlocker as well. I think i might have found my issue though. These pins on my new pressure plate look like they stick out a little bit further than the ones on my old pressure plate. They look damaged from hitting something when they didnt look like that when I first got the pressure plate. Ill put in some pictures so you guys can see what im talking about.
So I think I have to shave that metal pin in the first two pictures down to fix this.
