Default Obd2 port not communicating with scantool

My obd2 port on my 96 civic ex is not working I plug in the bafx 34t5 bluetooth scanntool & the red light indicates it gets power & runs through multiple protocols but wont communicate with the computer. I've tried on my friends 2008 Chrysler 300 & a 2017 Toyota Corolla & it connects immediately
any advice helps

S.N I recently did a motor swap & a new head gasket on the replacement motor

I have a d16y5 motor that was swapped in place of my stock civic ex motor. This motor was also used from 96-00 so I assume the odb is obd2 & not odb1. As far as the computer goes I'm not sure its unmarked on both sides except for one bar code & some series of numbers

You have an hx motor. It uses p2n ecu.. your ecu is p2p.
Not sure what year the motor is from. You need to find out. Then you need an appropriate ecu.

1) What country are you in? The D16Y5, according to wikipedia was used in some Civic EX models outside of the US.
2) Take a photo of the engine
