OBD1 to OBD2
'97 Civic EX with OBD1 2nd gen B16 . The goal here is to make the OBD1 motor OBD2.
I think that I've got everything but just wanna check w/cha
To make this swap work, I've got :
The original obd2 distributor from the '97 SOHC motor
Using the OBD2 ecu Harness from the original motor
Using the OBD2 injectors
Planning to use the OBD2-OBD1 Skunk2 ECU Harness
Stock motor mounts that came with the car.

im not sure.. but i dont think the y8 dizzy will fit on the b16. the altenator plug is also different. u may be able to mod the bracket to use your y8 altenator. pop in your obd2 injectors, and your y8 harness should plug right up

ok......
you use your stock wiring harness(which is obd2a) you use your stock ecu....use whatever injectors and plugs that plug into the motor...and i think you use si motor mounts.....did i leave out anything?.....just do a search...half the people on here have been through what you are about to do so yeah...bump for you

I don't know about using the stock ECU... Wouldn't I use the P30 that came w/ the swap?

Re: (sohcvtec66)
Just wanna make sure I got this right.
If I am using an OBD1 ECU with a Skunk2 OBD1 to OBD2 harness in a car that is OBD2 from the factory, do I make the motor OBD2 since I am using the original OBD2 engine harness?

Re: (99blackcivicSi)
Ok, I think your a little confused. You said you wanted to change the motor from OBD1 to OBD2, but you say you still want to use the OBD1 ecu that came with the swap. If you do this then you will still be running OBD1 even though your using the OBD2 harness that comes on your 97 civic. If you really want to run OBD2 you will have to purchase a OBD2 ecu that is made for a B16A2. The only one that I know of that is readily available is the OBD2b ecu on the 99-00 civic si's. Since those are OBD2b you will have to do alot more to make everything work. I believe you have to buy a new engine harness along with the ecu because both use different plugs then the OBD2A harness thats in your car.
I was in the same predicament you are in and I just ended up running an OBD1 to OBD2 conversion harness and ran the OBD1 ecu that came with the swap. I'm not sure how strict the your emissions regulations is in your state but if you do run OBD1 you might have a problem.
Heres a list of the differences I know of between OBD1 engines and OBD2 engines:
Different distributor plugs
Different alternator plugs
CFS (Crank Fluctuation Sensor)
EGR (Exhaust Gas Recircution sensor)
Different injector plugs
There might be more but its been a while since I thought about it
