Swapping in a ZC
I looked around the FAQs and the ZC swap link appears to be dead. Anyway, my D16A6 died on me a few months ago (knocking) and I am looking to buy a ZC off of HMotorsOnline. Is there anything I need to make sure I have before doing the swap? Or does it just bolt on? I was getting ready to do a mini-me on the old motor, so I have the components for that as well (obd0 - obd1 jumper harness, p28 ecu, and new intake and tb) any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!
which ZC are you thinking about getting - DOHC ZC, SOHC ZC non-VTEC or SOHC ZC VTEC? - what you need and how you accomplish the swap will depend a lot on what you are purchasing
Oh my bad, I saw the one that said [non v-tec] ans assumed any that didn't specify would be vtec 😅
I suppose the 88-92 sohc is what I would be considering. Item #30020

that engine is OBD0 non-VTEC and is essentially the same as the D16A6 you had - just has a little more horsepower - it will bolt right in with no wiring changes or changes of any kind - just like swapping in another D16A6 - you would use your PM6 ECU for the D16A6 - you don't need anything else

having done both mini me and the zc sohc it would be cheaper to do the mini-me since you already have the parts but that non-vtec zc sure has b*lls. I once kept up with a vette with it and the driver was surprised of course we were not racing but on the freeway. Given the choice=zc and yea use everything you already have-swaps over, to include the pm6
I used to follow ZC Resource many many moons ago and has since disappeared--Never read or came across someone doing a mini-me with a sohc zc.It does look identical to the A6- I would wager yes-feasible only one way to find out I would compare the bottom of the A6 head and the bottom of the ZC head to see if they are identical before proceeding-I know the piston chamber on the heads are different-hence difference in HP
So after digging around, it doesn't really seem that worthwhile to mini-me the ZC. However, I have sk2 manifold and tb, those should still fit on the zc right?
The Y8 is rated slightly higher for power than the sohc non vtec ZC but is the extra ~7hp really worth it to you?
The sohc non vtec ZC is basically a D16a6 with some minor changes to cam specs and emissions equipment depending on the year of the ZC. So if you're parts are designed to fit the a6, they'll fit the sohc non vtec zc.

My thoughts exactly, it doesn't feel worth it to do the swap. And yeah the parts were for the d16a6, so it should be fine. Thanks again for all the help everybody! Once i get her running again, maybe I'll post some pics. Im planning on plastidipping the window trip and repainting the body trim soon too.
