Default 99 Civic Si Sunroof relay causing fuse 51 to blow

Hey there, Honda tech peeps. I'm working on this 99 si. I first found the sunroof mirrors and door locks not working. Looked at fuse 16 changed it got the mirrors working.
then searched how to see why the door locks and sunroof were not working. Found a good test on here unplug all actuators and then plug in to see what causes the fuse to go.

Door locks work fine.

when I plug everything in for the sunroof is when I have an issue. The sunroof relay is causing the fuse to blow.

if I leave the sunroof relays unplugged the locks still work cause the fuse is still good.

any ideas or help would be good. I don't think the relay is bad but could the relay itself cause the fuse to blow or is there a short in the line some where. I'll continue to search I don't see any nicks in the line

thanks in advanced

Short may possibly be at the open/close switch or the tilt/close switch (both are located on the underside of the roof). You can remove the headliner cover and unplug the 4-Gray connector to those switches and see if the fuse still blows.

Those switches are part of the moonroof/sunroof cable assembly.

Ended up being the relay.
the previous azz hat jammed the relay in wrong
causing the middle prong to short the relay.
was able to pull it out and get the relay back to working condition

which in turn has the sunroof working again.
Thanks for the help. Hopefully this will help someone else in the future.

I know this thread is old but did you solve the issue? I’m having the same problem, as soon as I put the fuse under the hood it blows instantly and my locks don’t work as well, any suggestions? Thanks!

If you unplug the two moonroof relays or moonroof switch or moonroof motor, does fuse 51 still blow?

hey, I noticed that once I take off the sunroof relays (open and close) by the driver side under the dash the fuse stops blowing, how do I check for a short?

What if you remove only one of the two relays?

at first I removed the relays and put a new fuse on and put one of the relays and the moonroof opened 🤷🏼‍♂️ I had to close it manually because it wouldn’t close after.

Install a new left relay, and then go from there.
