01 Prelude ecu/smog issues - CALIFORNIA
ok the 20year old son did a few stupids here!
90k miles on this pretty Lude! Runs awesome... but>>>
Auto trans started to slip. My son had a chop shop drop a 5-speed in it. Loses his ONLY CHIPPED KEY for the car. Chop shop hard wires ignition direct to starter bypassing immobilizer.
Swapped out orig OBD II ecu for OBD I to get it to work correctly. Then a mis-shift, blows the H22 engine. and swaps it for a JDM H23 blue top.
OBD II got sold off. (getting good here)
Since it was parked "non-operable" CAL DMV requires STAR Smog to re-register. Surprise?
he needs a midnight smog - but needs the OBD II to get it done. - SUGGESTIONS? is this OBD II for 01 Prelude agnostic? or does it have a VIN burned on it.

u should be able to de solder the auto feature on the 0bd2 ecu i did that on mine and was able to keep immobilizer etc.. passes smoke like OEM
Thx and Happy New Year Hatch - however, as I wrote, he no longer has his original OBD II ecu.
He now has an OBD I. And no master key to reprogram a used OBD II.
thoughts?

about using H22A4 ecu with H23V:

Here's a list of what you needed to swap from your old motor to this motor in order to keep it all as if it came in the car factory
-intake manifold
-dizzy
-ignition coil
-oil pump
-crank sensors
-motor harness
No need for any extra wiring or special ecu. If you swapped these parts over, car would run normal.

So one of my MOST IMPORTANT QUESTIONS to the forum is:
Is the 01 Prelude OBD II ECU hard burned with the VIN# - OR -
Can I hunt for any used Honda 2001 OBD II? - IF I can, does the ECU have to be PRELUDE-H22 specific?

Thx LiteraCola!!
My '01 lude is a "California car"... so its ECU shouldn't be different from any other in the U.S.
Is that a safe assumption?
If anyone on the forum would like to confirm before I go and BUY ONE ...please do so!!!

Just for my own knowledge... so would that be the P5P ecu? I know the auto ECU is the P5M, but i can't find much more information than that.
37820-P5M-L55
restoring the car back to factory auto trans.
just wanted to confirm LiteraCola's assertion that the VIN is NOT HARD CODED on this ecu.
