Uncontrollable Torque Steer. HELP!!!
havin severe issues with the car. 600whp eg hatch. has quaiffe diff. 245/55 m&h. usually run 16lbs of tire psi on the street. 12k/18k bc coilovers. just got the car up to this power level from 400s. car just got aligned. neg 1/2° camber, toe in .005. 1° of pos caster. car freaking torque steers so bad it's uncontrollable and down right unsafe. I've owned the car several years, and it's always had it's squirrelly moments, but nothing of this caliber... any ideas?
I'd say its your diff, your fwd and @ 600whp so thats gonna be your real only variable, alignment of the wheels, not so much. You say you've owned the car for years and it was running away from you at times, was that with this diff? What type is the Quaiffe your running? With 600whp...your gonna have torque steer regardless since it's fwd. How does the differential perform? As far as when it locks and how much power its putting down?
not sure which exact quaiffe, was in the trans when I bought it. I have pulled it b4 and sent it to synchrotech and had them build the trans I'm runnin,so if there was an issue with the diff I'dhope they would've seen it. trans has maybe 1.5k miles on it,maybe

From: TRILLINOIS....WAY downtown, jerky.
What type of engine?
D series has unequal length axles...so its more prone to torque steer.
Are your axle angles the same?

My car is in the 500whp range and it torque steered something fierce with the stock differential. Now I have Mfactory and its much better. Still there sometimes especially on uneven pavement. Manual steering makes it more pronounced as well.
I'd do a few burnouts/accelerating out of a corner and just see if your diff is working properly.
If it is then I would suspect that it's caster related. But with that much power it's always gonna be there. Just hold on and let Jesus take the wheel 😊

I run -.5deg camber and it hooks well. Depending how much your front end is lifting under acceleration I guess it's also possible it could be rolling over into positive camber and causing instability. There's ways to test and see. I heard you can do it with chalk across the tire to dial it in perfectly.

Agreed, there is always going to be torque steer at this power level, especially on the street with the tires constantly searching for traction. Look into swapping your Quaife for a clutch pack type diff. Gear biasing diffs can only do so much, and can't work if one wheel has completely lost traction (in the air over kerbing, or under excessive spin, rally/dirt applications, etc.). I suspect that's what you're feeling. Also look into having the car corner balanced... it makes a difference too.
