Icon4 99 civic b18b1 engine swap *datalink issue*

Hi my name is Tyler, I am new to hondas and this forum. I recently purchased a 1999 Honda Civic ex with a b18 swap with a gsr head. When I purchased the car the CEL was off so I really didn't think much of it. But now having to pass inspection and maybe them having to plug into my datalink I decided to check it myself. Upon doing so the scanner said *no link* I've tried multiple scanners. I then started to do some research I noticed the motor was obd1 and so was my ecu but obviously the car is obd2. I have the jumper harness from rywire already in the car. The car stars drives perfectly fine. The only issue I have is connecting my DLC. The fuse is good and everything is good. I don't know what the previous owner did as far as the harness. Any help would be much appreciated I don't have to get it inspected for another 3-4 months.

Thank you in advance for any assistance,
Tyler

Well I will start by saying you will never get the OBD2 port to read on an obd1 ecu, which from what you said, that seems to be the case. I have to deal with this every two years, I run an obd1 ecu with Hondata S300 and a jumper harness. When inspection time comes around I swap in my stock ecu, injectors, etc... and go get tested.

I can't say much for the harness in your car, for all I know someone hacked all of the unused OBD2 sensor plugs off or they are just dangling there or maybe they swapped the OBD2 sensors required over to the obd1 engine. Some of these sensors can be bypassed when using an obd1 engine in an obd2 car with a obd2 ecu.

Other than registering the car somewhere that only requires safety inspections, you will have to get an obd2 ecu. Which I believe you would need an obd2a ecu from a gsr integra and the appropriate jumper harness. You may be able to use an obd2a integra non vtec ecu as well, there is always the 99-00 civic si ecu (meant for a b16, but if you are just using it for the obd2 port, it should be fine for temporary use). Hopefully someone else with more knowledge on the correct ecu can chime in.
