Default Oil capacity... after a head gasket change

The owners manual calls for 3.5 quarts of oil for a standard oil and filter change... but I am wondering if anyone knows precisely (or roughly would work too) how much oil is required after doing an HG job with the oil loss coming from around the head itself and from the top engine. Thanks.

Shouldn't be much different than what's quoted for a full oil/filter change, since the oil should have mostly drained back into the pan.

Maybe like 5-10 more ounces or something.

The distance between the dots on the dipstick is one quart. add 3 quarts or so until you can see it on the dipstick, then go from there. I also usually put some oil in the filter too.

I've always filled the oil up to the top line of the dipstick on Honda engines, then ran the car for 30 seconds or so to let the filter fill and the oil fill the system, then re-measure and add what's missing. Normally about 1/3 quart.

Whatever works. On larger engines though pre-filling the filter is a good idea.

Agreed, this was the must for the 1 liter diesel oil filters. By that, the filter held 1 full liter.

Never pre filled a car oil filter.
