Default Pedal Extenders

I'm looking to customize my pedals with pedal extenders for my honda civic 2001 ex. I'm 5'6" and the only way I can drive is if I get the seat real close since the pedals are so high up, if I put the seat back I end up hurting my feet cause of the pressure I put on them is less controllable when I have to reach for them. If I get the seat closer so that my feet don't hurt it's too close and my neck hurts. So I was just curious if any of you have had any experience making pedal extenders for this model...thanks.

Alternatively I just skimmed through my service manual, seems there may be a way to adjust the pedal arm height?

Can someone confirm this?

There are universal kits out there that can provide you with what you're looking for. Here's an example:
Amazon Amazon

As for adjusting the pedal arms, I believe that those adjustments are there for adjusting the free play in the pedal exclusively. Not for adjusting the distance from the driver.

My choice would be the pedal extenders as well. I would be concerned about a safe distance from you and the steering wheel airbag in case of deployment. What that safe distance is I am not sure but I have read about it.
Recall done on your airbags correct?

correct, I'm aware of those kits, but that's a lil' bit out of my price range. However I am now more interested in adjusting the height of the pedals themselves from the floor, as I think that would suffice and give me the driving posture that I desire.

This video illustrates what I speak of perfectly. I just haven't found anything on adjusting the gas pedal height in my service manual. I'm still looking for where it can be....

Here are the specs for the height in the service manual and the instructions on how to adjust the height for the brake pedal.

Yeah, I had my airbag replaced at the dealership a few years back because of that recall.

The only thing I'm concerned about adjusting the height on these pedals, is how much more it would pull the throttle cable (I'm still kind of new in learning about this area, but I read that there is a throttle cable involved when pushing the pedal), and if it could rip or get damaged. I did a quick measure on the pedals yesterday afternoon and the brake pedal is hanging at about 6" from the floor, which is a bit lower than spec, the gas pedal is even lower. but I have yet to find anything in the service manual about adjusting the height of the gas pedal. I only found the clutch height adjustment and I drive an automatic. The gas pedal raised about an inch might actually solve my problem since it is considerably low. I don't know why, I guess it's for safety reasons to always have the pedal sunken in more than the brake pedal, but in my case I think it's a little too low.

I'm not sure about the safe distance but I've read that when you extend your arm you should be able to just barely touch the dash in front of you, where the speedometer is and all those gauges.

You cannot adjust the pedals as you believe... the adjustment is only for proper free-play. This adjustment is for the brake and clutch pedals only... there is no adjustment for the gas pedal. You MUST use pedal extenders to attain the desired effect that you seek. I understand that you don't want to spend any money... but the no-cost fix that you are trying to force on the car WILL damage the brake master cylinder (and clutch master cylinder if you have a manual transmission car).

If you cannot get comfortable as a 5'6" tall individual with the normal pedal/steering wheel position in the Civic, the ONLY proper solution is pedal extenders. So, either design some yourself and you will have minimal cost in the materials OR pony up the "hondo" for the set on Amazon linked above. Seems like a cheap solution... and it will bolt on in minutes. Done.

Good luck.

Thanks for posting. I had a feeling I could damage something.

by chance do you have any experience making custom pedal extenders? I have an idea but I'm just curious of how you would recommend building them...
