Seating position help
Errr I see there was a seating position question within the last month but mine is a little different.
I work on my car a lot, the seats are moved often and I'm often finding myself fiddling with my seat adjustments to get it "just right." Sure I've adjusted my seat so many thousand times I can get it in the right position in less than one second, but invariably at the first stoplight I find myself seeing if one click of the fore/aft or seatback angle feels better.
Is there a textbook way to set the seat? Just using the basic fore/aft reclining Honda seat, here's what I do: Like Ron Spencer says, I put my butt as far back into the seat as I can, so I'm pushed up against the lumbar support. I usually start with the clutch pedal. Depending on the kind of driving I'll be doing, I'll set the seat position so that I can fully depress the clutch comfortable with heel on the floor. Sometimes, I find it more comfortable to sit a click or two further back, requiring me to almost "tippy-toe" to fully depress the clutch. Sitting further back is more comfortable, however, as the forward position brings the brake and gas a little too close. Tilt wheel so all gauges are clear. Without a telescoping wheel, I basically have to use the seatback angle to determine my distance from the steering wheel. Naturally we want the wheel somewhat close so our elbows bend for extra leverage. I have shortish legs and longish arms, so I end up in a rather reclined position, yet as upright I can be without being too close to the wheel (there have been many complaints about the Accord's wheel position). Well anyways this always works out comfortable, seems ergonomically correct and is great for daily or track driving. I was wondering if anyone has some driving/seating position tips to share or critique my method.
Thanks
