h22a4 turbo build?
hey guys im thinking about buying a spare h22a4 or h22 in general and am doing a bit of research on it to find out if i want to turbo it or not. i know about the frm walls and that forged isnt an option if i dont sleeve it. ive also read where there are frm compatible pistons but they wont do well with boost nor are really compatible with the stock frm sleeves. ive read that type s pistons are an option but with them being 11.1-1 compression they arent very good for higher psi. and i also know that the stock block can handle about 8-10 psi safely with a good tune. pretty much what im wondering is what is the best turbo set up for an h22a4 without sleeving the block and with sleeving the block? what are some setups that are already out there that i can also reference from?
Mahle golds are a forged piston that works with FRM, but are very touchy, so the machine shop must be very good at dealing with the frm hone. I would say around 550 WHP is the most I have heard of this setup being pushed reliably.
If you sleeve, the sky (or your bank account) is pretty much the limit.
