Default B18typeRAAAWWWR's B18C R Turbo Progress thread

Hey all at Honda tech! This is my first post in a forum ever! I'm a noob to the forums but not a noob to the scene so if y'all could help me out wit my latest upgrade it'd be much appreciated! I've had my b18 type r in my 2000 Ek coupe for 4 years now, and it's time for sum serious power!

Here's a bit of history of everything that lead me to go to turbocharging.

I recently rebuilt the engine that I bought from H Motors Online, which was smoking like a train I might add, and added,
supertech valvetrain (springs and retainers)
skunk 2 tuner stage 3 cams
B16A pistons and rods for a lil higher compression along with the full normal rebuild of an engine( I.e. ACL bearings, 3 angle valve job, piston rings, ARP head studs etc,) along with a short ram instead of my previous CAI(because of rain inconveniences) and the hondata cpr kit (yes I'm running on the hondata S300v3).

Also has Walboro 255 FP with evo 360cc injectors tuned on E85, however when I had it tuned at Church Automotive, it made LESS horsepower and torque than when it was stock on regular pump gas!
For example, before the rebuild and modifications it was at 215hp and 157tq. After rebuild it was at 212hp and 145tq. Tuned by the same place by Sean both times, same dyno, wjho had adjusted the cam gears and all!

I don't know what happened! But since it didn't gain anything and actually went backwards, after all that money spent, I'm looking at going F/I and want to know what all I'll need to make that happen.
I am aiming at 350-400whp on E85 and it will be driven on a daily basis. Let me know if that's too much to daily.

I just want it relatively reliable and screaming fast, for drag weekends! Will the walboro 255 support that HP on E85? And I'm going to upgrade to 1000cc injectors to have room to spare, along with low comp pistons and eagle H beams and I was thinking gsr cams?.

Do you think my goal is achievable without sleeves? I want to get into the high 11's on the 1/4, any help much appreciated but please don't bash me for wanting to boost a type r! Thank you guys!

400whp is no problem on stock sleeves with forged pistons and rods. No reason to lower compression especially when running E85, stick with ~10-11.5 to 1. Your walbro 255 should get you to 400whp with 1000cc injectors and E85. GSR cams will work, but ITR or even skunk2 tuner 1 cams would be better for that power goal. What's your plan for the turbo setup? Church is a good tuner so you're good there.

Sorry for the change up B18typeRAAAWWWR (interesting screenname), but your original post was horribly and confusingly written. I'm sure it was just because you were excited about going to the "dark side" of Forced Induction and needed to get all of the background information you wanted as fast as possible.

I'll say this. Your goals are very reasonable, and don't require nearly as much as you think. you can use any knock resistant fuel for higher boost pressures, but in order to do that, you have to get that SMOG/BAR/Ref emissions thought out of the window, because it won't happen without violating one or all of those regulating bodies. Get that out of your head now.

Don't also deal with the rumors of "well, what I heard was that.... is that true?" that doesn't help you, nor give us any additional incentive to assist you more, balancing and dispelling rumors and such. This forum alone contains over 15 years of information and discussion, and the FAQs (grey highlighted at the top) is the best place to start off. In fact, go back to that area first to see if an answer is there before asking further questions.

Boosted94gsr himself has pretty much everything that you're asking for in his current setup, and although he may have invested a bit more than you may be willing to, if you notice, his car is consistent, reliable, and his results are repeatable . I'll link his setup below for you to witness. Read the whole thing please. boosted94gsr went by the moto BOCO, (Buy Once, Cry Once), and that philosophy has worked for him, so go by that, and read it all before asking anymore questions.

Whether its a GS-R or Type R ( I do wish you didn't touch it, but, cie la vie), in turbocharging, it's all the same in the end.

Also, speaking of questions and lists, please make sure that it stays in this thread, and don't create 2-5 other threads asking individual questions. This is your build thread now, so post it all here.

Welcome, and enjoy.
