1997 Honda Civic LX - Put car in drive gear but only goes for short time then won't go anymore until it sits for while then go again,,,, please help and tell me what's wrong

 

First thing would be to check the transmission fluid level. There is not much more that a DIYer can do with an automatic.

When you tried to go and the car won't move, did the speedometer go up or did it stay at zero?
