Crank but no start
My husband, and I have a 92 honda civic hatch. We rebuilt a d16z6 bottom half of the engine together for this vehicle. The car started, and ran fine for about two days. On the third day when we went to get it inspected, the vehicle lost power (battery died). So we replace the alternator, also the belt. Then when we looked under the hood we saw the cam gear (aftermarket cam gear, we got from a friend) throw the engine out of time. So I put the car back in time. Then we weren't getting spark. Changed plugs, wires, and the distributor guts. Now there is spark. There is fuel going to the engine(I drank enough of it checking the rails) plus the pump is priming.. I checked the wires to the ecu, all the pigtails are fine. But when I opened the ecu the r135 had barbecued it's self. Which that ecu was p106. Which is the non VTEC I was running the car as a non. so I put my p28 in. Also finally plugging up the VTEC for the first time. The p106 even though r135 looks barbecued I don't have a solid check engine light on. But when I plug the p28 and plug up the VTEC the engine light stays on. I have even tried checking for codes with the little plug that hangs beside the ECU in the car. With both ecu's I get no codes at all. I've even tried popping the clutch just to get this thing started. It worked for a little bit now doesn't it all. I have checked all fuses. I've even unbolted ground cleaned off the area and ground bolting them back up . I am 100%stumped and I'm trying to figure out how to fix car this for my husband because he's about to give up working on cars all together . Does anyone know what it could be a why it will crank but not start?
What trim level 92 hatch?
Have you verified the correct plugs are on the correct sensors by wire colors? I know there is at least 2 sensors on the 92-95 that have the same plug type and will fry the ECU if swapped. As for which two, I don't remember off hand.

The hatches in 92 CX and I did identify the plugs as to which went to which. I am thinking that I may have bent a valve when the cam gear spun and threw itself out of time. And then every time I pop the clutch the valve kept bending more. To where it will crank but not start.
