Default 94 Honda Civic EX starts, runs rough after overheat.

I found this thread that is similar to my problem.

Okay I'm new to this. But this is my first civic. I have a 94 Honda Civic ex with a d16y7 in it. It supposedly has head work like a z6 head and what not. But I drove the car home after getting it. I drove like a 1 1/2 and no problems. The exhaust was cut off after the cat. Th cat kept bouncing off the ground and came off. Now it's just open header. I got my oil changed and tires balanced the day after I got the car. I was driving to work made it about 35 min and the car overheated and shut off. It barley smoked. I didn't see any white smoke. The coolant did stater to shoot out when I opened the radiator cap. Once it cooled down I check the oil for any milkyness and there wasn't any. No oil in the coolant either. The car did try to start but when it did it ran very rough like it wasn't on all 4s. Any ideas?

Could be the fuel, was it the previous owner daily driver or was it sitting for a while? You also said previous owner replace timing belt and water pump, where did he take it to get it done, any paper work on that?

Sound like you got a lemon

I can smell gas as I'm trying to start it. He had it for three months or so and drove it once in awhile he said these receipts to the build. I know the car had a half tank when I picked it up so maybe it sat to long? I changed plugs they had black all over the bottoms. I burnt up the starter trying to start it so I have to replace that. I'm thinking of changing the dizzy and wires?

He had it for like 3 months drove it here and there. There's receipts for the build. I know the car had a half tank when I got it. Maybe it sat to long? I changed the plugs. The original plugs had black all over the tips. Thinking of changing the dizzy and wires also? I burnt up the starter so I have to replace that. The car started up fine when I first got it. Idk what to do. What should I check for ?

I'll start with the fuel, to get the fuel started, I need to know what the battery looks like. Whats is the battery voltage now? If it checks ok, do you hear a priming noise right when you turn the key to the on position? Try turning the key 3 times if you do or don't hear it and report what you hear.

I try not to replace anything until I full diagnosis the problem or problems that cause whatever my problem is.

Okay I'll start with fuel. The starter should be her Friday so I won't be able to check much. I put a new battery on it when I got it so battery is good. I don't remember hearing anything prime when I put the key in the ignition but I'll have to check again. Thanks for the help I appreciate it

No, the battery is not good unless you check it, whenever I buy a new battery, I check it. Your also checking the current condition its in after so many attempts of trying to turn it on.

Lmao, he really high-jacked it cause I can't find the original thread on the main page, the link work thought. Probably be better if this was deleted because he stated it does start as opposed to the title and everything I post has nothing to do with his situation. I though I was communicating to the original poster.

Fixed the title. I didn't actually read the first post initially so correlated the title of the highjack thread to be the same issue.

Thanks for pointing out that wasn't the case.

OP Blown head gasket. Ask me how I know.
