hey peoples, new here and new to hondas just bought a 89 crx with the d15b2 automatic, the kid i bought if from tried working on it and is now my headache. things he messed with were tps, iac and god knows what else. he told me he replaced the tps and tore apart the iac to clean it. he didnt install the tps correctly and when he cleaned the iac he also took out the set screw on the end.

so heres my problems, i tested the tps and couldnt get a read of .5-5v. replaced it and still nothing. i tested it koeo and koer, and the 5v input, i actually had voltage of 2-4v koer any thoughts? bad connector? bad new tps?

as for the iac i pulled it apart and he didnt have it set at all, the spring was just chilling in there loose. so i adjusted it to make contact and apply a litl bit of pressure to plunger, things are running better, no surging or high idle or sticky throttle, has slow throttle response and if you put it in drive or reverse and hold the brake it will slowly bog down and eventually die .

also i checked the codes and there was around 8 codes, 2 of which were the tps and iac. there was also crank and a couple more. i cant remember what they were ill have to look again

please dont hang me, this type of stuff has probably been beat to death

 

i ran into this problem on the tps
what i did was cut the inner metal peace on the inside
and doing this lets you adjust the tps so it sits right at .50

 

im not following, inner metal piece?

 

there are two bolts that hold your tps sensor to your throttle body right
on the sensor its self there it a metal peace where both bolts go into

the two gold metal peaces in the picture
to adjust your sensor more you simply trim off the metal peace or remove it with your flay head screw driver
and now you can adjust your sensor over more
up to .7 volts so getting it to sit at the .5v will work now

 

ok ive got you now, ill give that a shot, i was thinking of trying it
how often do you get bad/new tps? still not getting anything out of the signal wire

side thought how much vacuum is that iac supposed to have when its operating?

 

maybe the previous owner put the wrong TPS on it? - did you get one for the DPFI? - are you applying vacuum to the dashpot diaphragm? - the TPS for the MPFI is not the same as the one for the DPFI - try switching the YEL and GRN wires and see if it gets better - the DPFI TPS rotates in the opposite direction from the MPFI
