Default Too wired to go to sleep...so heres a question Id like sum opinions on...

Im thinkin about upgrading my car's engine for more power/and well lesser miles (262k and still running smooth ) Anyways, I was thinking one of these 2 options:
1) Have my local raceshop rebuild my engine (SOHC d16!!) with new pistons, piston rings, gasket, block work, bore x stroke enlargement etc....basically told me Id have like 160 hp at the wheels. Basically a new engine (0 mileage! ) He also says that I will be turbo ready....which is awesome! This is my most likely choice (will cost about 2k)...
2) SWAP !1!!!! Sadly I dont know much about the prices...I know engines go for about 2k and under for semi used ones...and isnt swap work costly too? Labor fees I duno...Any info would be nice

dude go w/ a swap all the way! youll be happier in the end, at least imo.

theres just more potential w/ a dohc, hell even a non vtec b18 would be nice, those take to boost nicely. as far as swapping it goes do it yourself w/ a mechanic friend or find someone who will do it on the side for you.

hell you live in RI? bring your car down to me, me and my friend will do it for you for about $600-$700.

from what i have read this place here http://www.osakajdmmotors.com/engines/index.html

sells engines at nice prices, you can get a b16 for $1850 plus shipping.

lol Thx Lucas Ill start researching around more...and if it comes to it I just might drive down to ya ;P The thing about the SOHC tho, is if I have new internals and its rebuilt, then Ill have a 1) light engine 2) turbo ready sunofabitch! Also the Raceshop in RI that I go to are forced induction specialists...they said they could hook me up with a dope turbo kit for about 3k that'd make me run 11's !!!...

I doubt you could run 11s spending 6k. ASk them what this magical kit consists of because some of that money better be drag radials/racing slicks and an LSD if you want 11s.

11's for $6k? hell no!!!

you could get a full type r swap for less than $5k!

if your set on going turbo get a b18b or b16 for about $2000-$2500 and get in on the many-many group buys on turbo kits in the forced induction forum.

youd still be less than your $6k you have in mind, listen for right now do alot of reading and research.

don't get me wrong you can squeeze some respectable power out of the sohc but imo its much easier and CHEAPER if you start off w/ a dohc from the get go.

i was in the same boat as you way back and i couldnt decide whether to stay w/ my sohc vtec or upgrade to a dohc. i went with a dohc b18c GSR swap and i dont regret it one bit.

now i'm forced fed and it takes a lond time to wipe this off my face!
