1996 ign lock cylinder interchangability
The dummy I am, I lost the only key I had to my car. I've written off finding it at this point.
I'm believing that my initial solution of a hidden interlock switch and just bypassing the key in favor of a switch and a button on the console are unwise. But at the same time I am having difficulty reconciling $250 for a new ignition switch, which has to be special ordered anyway.
I've seen the stock photos of the parts at work and the connectors and pinouts look the same between auto and stick versions, but the switches themselves look different. Has anyone seen the two side by side, and will the automatic version mount up? I ask because I'm contemplating going to the junkyard to look for one and finding one with a key in it will be a long shot and I would like to broaden my pool as much as possible.
Thanks for the time.

Do you have the original owners manual for the car? If so look in the front and see if the information from the original sale is filled out...should be a key code written there. ANY good locksmith can cut you a key from that code. You can also see if your local honda dealer can provide the code and cut a new key. If you find a locksmith, they might be able to cut you a key if you can take them one of the door lock cylinders

Pay special attention to how he removes the steering column bolts. It's sheer genius(no pun intended)

holmes, thank you, I would have been stumped by those bolts, it didn't occur to me that there would not be hex head fasteners there.
When you get the new ignition assembly the two bolts that come supplied with it have heads that break off after you get to a certain torque.
Got a pair of new keys cut from the vin [had to wait for monday]. I did not know that was an option previous. Thank you to those who answered.
