NEED HELP 96 Acura integra high idle won't go away
I did a b20b swap in my integra from a crv with only 60,000 miles on it. And I have a high idle problem the distributor is good is actually angle to retard but still idles high when car turns over it idles all the way to 3000 rpms then drops to 1500 rpm when in drive which makes it jerk when going to gear 4 so that's to high. Cause stopped at a light it vibrates the whole car But in park car idle goes up and down between 1500-2000 rpm then when I cover the throttle body with my hand it doesn't die it stops idling up and down and idles normal which confuses me cause the IACV is cleaned and I did adjust the FICV and everything is connect corectly and bolts on the intake manifold are tight and no vacuum leaks so I'm lost 😩😔😓
Have you try the smoke leak test?
blow smoke in from the booster line on the intake manifold. See if smokes come out anywhere.
My last high idle issue I had smoke coming out behind the throttle cable snail coil/spring.. Very little but caused a hard to find leak.
Also, did you do the iacv plug test? Engine running, place your finger over the lower port inside the throttle body. Does that change the idle??
When you said you cover the throttle body while engine is running and it didn't stall, that mean you got a leak somewhere. Air is getting in somewhere to let the engine keep going..
The engine should've stall and die..
Do the smoke test and see..there is a YouTube vid on how to do that, Scotty kilmer vid.. I used that to find the leak my car had..

Thank you I'll try that and I'll update you
but yah I do cover the top whole with my finger while the car is warm and it still idles up and down but the rpms do drop lower though and then when I cover the throttle body with my hand it does idle perfectly fine so maybe there is a leak

I know exactly what is wrong, you made the same mistake as OP. '96 and up is OBD2, right? OBD2 manuals stopped using the fast idle thermo valve (autos continued to use them). Instead the IACV takes over and does both jobs. I'm assuming your B18B swap is either from an automatic, or from before '96. Either way, if you're still running the OBD2 ecu, then you need to ditch that throttle body, and go back to the one that doesn't use the FITV. Or find someway to block it off and bypass it. But here's the kicker! Assuming this is your situation, the IACV you have on now won't work either. The IACV that works with the FITV is different from the stand alone IACV so you will have to buy or source another one that's for OBD2 manual vehicles. Hopefully OP figured this out and solved his problem.
I hope the OP doesn't mind me jumping but I have an idle problem too.
Sometimes I turn the car on and it idles incredibly low, like 2-300rpms. Occasionally it shuts off. Or other times it idles at like 1500rpms then as its getting warmer, it goes down below 1000rpms.
I've cleaned the IACV before, the problem still persists, I just changed the spark plugs (needed to anyway), still happens. Any other troubleshooting ideas?
By the way, it's an original motor (Acura Integra, b18b1)
