Default SOHC SI head on a SOHC EX block

Is there benifits of this swap ? my friend has a 1992 Si swapped out for a B16A, and i was wondering if the head would fit my ex let alone prove any HP gains ?

If your EX is a 92-95 then don't even bother messing with it because the Si and EX are both the D16Z6.

actually, I believe the reverse is more beneficial. The y8 head is supposed to have the better combustion chamber, while the z6 bottom end is stronger.

Not on a sohc because you aren't tuning the engine. All a cam gear does on a sohc is move the power/torque curve. If you want to do that all you have to do is clock the distributor...it does the exact same thing, but it's free.

If your getting the swap. Upgrade your suspension and brakes. Don't bother with the engine in any way until you have the swap. Why spend money twice?

Its a small displacement engine, thats why low end is a problem. Anyway, thats not what I was reffering to when I said the z6 bottom end was better, I meant block crank, rods, etc. Either way, I don't think the switch is going to net you much of a power gain. I agree with what others said, if you want to work with the car, and plan to ditch the auto, either save for the swap or manual conversion if you wanted to. You could also work on the suspension as well. Good luck whatever you choose.

NO NO NO that is not correct. Cam timing is totally different from ignition timing. With a cam gear you are controlling when the valves open and close, turning the distributor will adjust when spark is fired.

For NA I wouldn't bother with a cam gear though. It might help you squeeze out 1 or 2 ponies but nothing that will make a difference.
