Default Excessive Smoke. Consistent Compression and No Leakdown all 4 cylinders.

Hey all,

I have a problem with a built turbo LSvtec setup. The engine runs well and it has 165 psi across all 4 cylinders. My compression tester may read a little low...It also passed leakdown test with no excessive leakdown.

The turbo is new, 500 miles if that and it's not a cheap ebay turbo.

The problem:
The car smokes especially when letting off the throttle. A good amount of smoke exits out the tail pipe and also under the car closer to the mid exhaust.

Any insight is appreciated. The bottom end is built with new Pistons and rings but it has a stock gsr head. I did not replace the valve stem seals before the head was installed.

Here's a video for reference:

That's why I performed the Leakdown test. Which should reassure its not leaking past the rings. Trying to eliminate as much possibilities I can with testing. Just curious if any of you have had similar experiences with solid numbers and what was the issue.

That could be valve stem seals if it's happening under load. Have someone drive behind you as you accelerate, then let off the throttle so the car goes into vacuum. If it does it only on deceleration, more than likely it's the valve stem seals. (since your other tests have ruled out other options)

The other thing of course is for you display photos of
-Turbo orientation (CHRA needs to be vertical)
-Oil return routing to oil pan
-oil inlet configuration, (listing all restrictors, they're types and where located)
-Company turbo used, and its condition when purchased
-Any signs of oil in the turbine housing or downpipe.

only then can we get started on the diagnostic possibilities, and not a moment before then.

We patiently await the photos.

Hi,

I had a similar issue with my built motor, turned out it was the oil return line between the charger and the oil pan.

Mine had a slight kink in it, since I have eliminated the kink it has stopped smoking upon decelleration

It will also be smoking from the front due to an exhaust leak, check your downpipe to midpipe connection

The turbo sits very low on this car because we needed to run an adapter flange from the turbo manifold. There is not much room for a return line. Please ignore the hideous rtv sealant and the old return line fitting that has been sealed shut...temp fix until the pan is dropped.

Here are pics of return line. I will update with turbo orientation shortly.

damn that's a pretty crappy improvised rig. perhaps the oil pan tap is too low hard to with all that silicone. also I would take that 45 off the pan for sure, but yeaah use the attach file function instead of dropbox

Lmfao. Please tell me your feed isn't that much of a joke.

This is why so many people just turn and run when they hear "modified Honda".

Ouch lol, As previously noted... the return line appearance isn't the prettiest. At the time it had an appt for the dyno so rtv was applied around the pan fitting to bandaid a small leak.

Either way the distance from the turbo oil Return fitting is very short to the oil pan as seen in the prior pics. It uses a 45 degree from the turbo, then hose, then 45 degree to the oil pan. The hose is not kinked in any way.

I'll try to get additional pics of the return line cleaned up a bit and repost them. I used my phone earlier to upload and had problems with h-tech upload. I'll pull downpipe and filter to check for any oil residue.

Shodan, the turbo is a stc hunter. I ran the oil resistor you recommended.

Below is the the turbo feed line. It's running the recommended restrictor. The turbo is also coolant fed.
