I believe the only aluminium rods that will fit are R&R

im aware of having to notch the bottom of the block with aluminum rods, the question was if the big end of the rod is to fat to fit down the small 81.5mm - 82mm bore when assembling the engine

Call the manufacturer and ask for rod dimensions.

I have run into this issue on other engines and many times you can insert the rod from the bottom of the bore, and then install the piston/pin combo down into the bore then bolt the rod to the crank. Not ideal but works.

EFF THAT!!!!

Most of the rod makers will just take the rod you want and cut it where it will fit, albeit, you lose strength. I know I've been using GRP and the smallest i've been able to go is 84mm. R&R will have more clearance.

Why run a aluminum rod on a stock sleeve, if a steel rod will outlast the sleeves anyways?

Sometimes you have what you have and the small bore is needed to hit a displacement cap, etc.
