98 Accord LX fans only come on with AC on, Won't cool car
As the title says, A day or two ago I was wondering why the temp gauge started moving higher then it was supposed to. Today I do some troubleshooting with the AC on and both fans are moving. Is it bad fans? Or is something else messed up. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
With the engine cool, check the coolant level in the radiator. If it isn't full, add some. If it looks bad and/or it hasn't been changed in forever, change it, but it may be that the radiator itself is corroded internally and so it is not dissipating heat well enough any more, and you need to replace it. Replacements aren't as expensive as you might think - you can get one at AutoZone for $100-$200 most likely. Watch Scotty Kilmer's YouTube video "How to fix and overheating car" for a complete run down of things to check.

The simple test is to turn the ignition to on, without starting the car. Disconnect the connector for the fan switch at the end of the lower radiator hose and stick a paperclip in the connector. See if the fans immediately turn on. If they do, then you need a new fan switch from Honda. Do not buy aftermarket cooling system parts.
