96 Civic EX/D16Y7 swap - Need OBD2a or OBD2b P2E ECU?
Hi all, I have a 96 Civic EX with a swapped D16y7 engine done by the prev owner. The car does not rev past 6000k rpm. I looked at the ECU and it is a P2P, which I am assuming the owner left in after he did the swap. I am currently looking to buy a P2E ECU, but need guidance on how to find out whether the current engine requires an OBD2a(96-98) or OBD2b(99-00) ECU.
Thanks.
Thanks.
You have likely not received any responses because there are no easy answers based on the information that you have offered.
Please post a photo of the ECU plugs while they are plugged into the ECU and a photo of the intake manifold that is installed in the car. From there, we can offer up some help.

Thanks for the response, I will get some photos of the ECU tomorrow. As for the intake manifold, prev owner swapped the y8 manifold for the y7, so the engine is a y7 with a y8 intake manifold.

AUTOMATIC 6G Civics use all four ECU plugs... it has nothing to do with whether it is an OBD-2A ('96-98) or OBD-2B ('99-00) chassis.
This has been a cool learning experience
My only question is.. Does connector B change the VTEC & KS wire install locations? I basically didn't touch connector B for anything.. Stuck with the posted A, C, D
