Default Ignition switch causing issues?

Long story short, I drive a 94 Civic DX, boosted stock internal d16z6, bkr7e's on stock wires and stock distributor, adjustable FPR with DSM black tops, Walbro 255, blah blah. Car has been running like a champ since its tune last July, but on the way home today I noticed the fuel pump was intermittently changing pitch (was somewhat warm today, maybe it was surging?). 02's were never unusual.

To the point. I was in the middle of coasting, out of gear, and the car died. I quickly started it back up and tried to get home a little quicker. About 5 minutes from home I was accelerating and the car completely died while I was in a group of cars. Pulled on to the shoulder and tried to restart the car SEVERAL times. Fuel pump was priming, but the car wouldn't idle after cranking. Eventually it started and I managed to get it home. Let the car sit about an hour and then decided to investigate.

This was where I found a new symptom. I turned the key over to the two lines on the cylinder, and didn't get and cel, battery or dummy lights, and my fuel pump didn't prime. I turned the key as though I was going to start it, and the lights came on, and the fuel pump primed. Even the lights on my climate control came on, despite not having been on with the key at accessory on. My Wideband was the only thing functioning with the key turned to accessory on. With the key held in place at what is essentially "start" I pushed in the clutch and the car turned over, tried to start, but immediately died. Did this several times, but to no avail.

Any particular tests I should try running? I'm literally without a vehicle while this thing is down so I deeply appreciate any help anyone has.

You'll find diagrams in the FAQs sticky for testing the ignition switch.

Thanks. This was more a question as to whether or not people have experienced this and was it actually pertaining to the ignition system? I can't imagine it being fuel or spark as its running great when it actually starts..

If you're interested in solving the problem, get a multimeter, and test the ignition switch.

sounds likely, but as ronj's signature suggests, troubleshoot. MANY people on here waste tons of $$$ throwing parts at problems

I don't typically throw parts at a car to see what works. This is probably the most bizarre thing I've ever had happen with any vehicle I've ever owned. Not even sure it is in fact ignition related, my tuner told me to get with someone with a p28 to just see if that rules out the possibility of a **** ECU.

Then the whole fuel pump changing tone while sitting at idle as if it's surging from something. Can't imagine that would be ignition related. It is what it is.

Did you create a thread to ask members to guess what the cause of the problem might be? If you want real answers, start electrical troubleshooting with a multimeter.

Do you fear the multimeter?

No, he started this thread so we can discuss and just talk about his issues. Nothing tech related.

Lock it down, then. I do heating and air service work for a living so I'm fairly well versed with multimeters. Pardon me for asking a few questions.
