Ok i am moving out to LA here in 4 months. The problem being my car will have to go through emissions testing, because i am moving from Ohio. Well as everyone knows CA has the strictest emissions, and Ohio is strict, but not really. Current setup is:

DOHC ZC
Garrett t3/t04e water-cooled turbo
2.5" downpipe
2.5" testpipe
3" Thermal Turbo Exhaust

Now i know damn well this isn't going to pass Emissions. Anyone know a way to get this set-up to pass CA emissions testing without having to do alot of modifying to it?

 

Give $100 to the inspector, it actually works.

smogs are different then Ca State ref.. you can find smog stations that sell umm somgs... but state refs you can't at least to my knowledge and a lot of ppl i know.... i think you would have to take your turbo off and find a replacement exhaust to pass state ref... but i think all you have to do when moving to cali is pass smog...

I'm pretty sure you can take it to any smog station not to a ref. But you're gonna need some $$$$$ if you don't want to take all your mods off.

 

All I can say is, Good luck! Passing smog and getting someone to grease is getting harder and harder every year. Worst scenario, is you may have to take your mods off along with the turbo. Any mods that did not come with the motor has to go...until you pass at least, then put it back...only good for 2 years til you get your next test, haha...

 

By the way there was an article on the Honda hybrid webpage about one of the guys from that site trying to get his ZC through CA emissions. They will not pass your motor at all even if its just a bone stock ZC. They know thats not a USDM motor. My ZC passed emissions with flying colors and they didnt even check anything out at all. I love MD emissions. Good luck to you.

Well that is shitty..............I don't wana go through the hassle of taking the turbo off and getting a header and a stock exhaust. Looks like every 2 years i will have to fork over 100 bucks or so to get someone to pass me. When my friend bought his Type R and brought it too Ohio, they did his emissions at a Car Dealership. Do Car Dealerships do this in CA?

 

I have passed smog in california twice with zc's in both my cars, dont say it cant be done.

 

But with a Turbo and an ALMOST free flowing exhaust?

 

dude just get your stock setup and keep it!!!! when comes time to smog swap your stock **** back in!!! thaz what i am doing to smog mine when i get my swap in!! i am saving every thing!!!

 

what part of CALI you going to i got some smoge dudes that will hook you up! if you don't have a stock motor to throw in!!!
