I have a Borg S362 on a car I'm considering purchasing. I was looking things over last night and noticed some play between the center section and the turbine housing. There is also some oil leaking from that connection. The compressor wheel spins perfectly and no shaft play at all. All of the bolts are tight (4) that hold the center section to the turbine housing.

What could be causing this play?

if its loose, the bolts holding the bearing housing to the turbine are not secured. unless all bolts are stripped, but unlikely

 

All of the bolts are tight (4) that hold the center section to the turbine housing. Its possible they have stretched... but otherwise they all seem nice and tight.

 

might be the wrong housing or center section.
or the backplate is missing. by backplate I'm referring to the dome shaped thing that goes between the exhaust wheel and center section. its only sheet metal, but it usually gets clamped between the center and exhaust housings, so if it's missing there will be a small gap between the two housings even when tightened all the way

 

Ths for the feedback/ideas. I took the turbo kit off last night and confirmed all of the bolts (4ea) that hold the center section to the turbine housing are tight... That said, I can spin the turbo (compressor and center section) so its obviously not clamping well. Next step is to remove the bolts that are holding it together and take a look...
