Default NE1 who installed SPRINGS there self, please read

On a coupe, do you need to use a spring compressor or not. my friend said that he didn't use one on his 94 hatch but everyone that I ask at local shops says to a spring compressor.
What did you do?

you don't need it, it just makes it easier to mount the springs.

I wouldnt pull the fronts apart without a compressor.

I dont feel it is safe. the rears arent bad , much softer / shorter springs.

I didn't use a spring compressor either. Just use an air compressor and let the nut/washer/top hat, and spring shoot out. Be sure you are out of the way though

its what.. $5-$10 to rent a spring compressor for a day, maybe cheaper if you can rent it for just a few hours... just get one!

You should use a compressor. You can rent them for free at autozone. You just have to leave a deposit.

i used a spring compressor. i was going to rent it but just ended up buying one. i can't remember the price, but it was fairly cheap. like around 20 or 30 bucks. not too bad. i'm glad i did too because i installed my springs onto some neuspeed/koni yellows and about a week after the install i decided to lower the rear perches so i would've had to re-rent one anyway.

I installed my GC coilovers in my coupe without a spring compressor. All we did was just line the bottom with towles and let em' shoot out, just stand back.

So true. The first time I did it, I had no compressor, my friends helped and we just shot them out. Then, a few weeks later, we did my friends car and had a compressor and I could not believe how easy it was and how fast we did it. It's also a lot safer. Just rent one, it's not gonna hurt anything.

i would use a compressor, w/out a doubt could turn nasty if u slip and u go flyin with the spring!! only costs around £20 (in the uk) and makes life easier, esp. if u need to replace your lowering spring for the o.e. ones again, does make it a longer job though using compressors

Downright dangerous not using one. Blindness vs. saving a few minutes. Hmmm.
