Icon2 Honda Civic 1988 Starts normally then Dies

Hello everyone, hope i'm posting the thread in the right section

As title says, I have my Honda Civic 1988 after a ride then parking it, tried to start, it cranks as normal and then dies, and keeps cranking fine and works then directly dies, some of tries i tried to keep throttling, it was different feeling like i'm forcing it running, and once i release fuel throttle it dies again, the whole situation sounds like insufficient fuel flow while fuel flow seems to me fine and pumps are working normal.

A week before, it was being driven by a friend who forgot to switch on the radiator fan which is manually controlled, and it was over heating, i don't know if that might help, but i've never had such problem before

Some of my friends supposed it could be that overheating ruined head gasket, i'm not much aware about parts and names technicians and mechanics use, but i have moderate knowledge about about machines and always fixed everything happens to the car, except such sensitive problems, i preferred to ask before doing something i might make mistake

Any help will be welcome and appreciated

One of two things.

1. main relay is bad or on the way out, not letting it to follow thru and fire up.
- turn key on to position 2 and listen for fuel pump to prime.
- if you can hear it then not relay

2. my wagon and crx both had had this issue, try to start and then cut off.
- have to keep foot on floor to over-ride anything and it will fire and run.

replaced ignition switch (the plastic piece behind key mechanism with wires attached) and the issue was resolved.

Thank you so much my friend, i've read somewhere about ignition switch, but i've checked it, and tried to keep the key to position between "Start" and "On" to check if it's ignition switch caused this, but not working either

My 91 integra did that. I changed the fuel pump Cuz my first guess was it wasent getting enough fuel but it turned out to be the ecu. Maybe that's your problem

I had the same problem and it was the ignition switch. When you said you checked the ignition switch, how did you check it? I had to take the steering wheel off, pull the steering column cover off, then remove the 2 bolts holding the ignition key cylinder in place. I separated the ignition (white round thing) and noticed there was a lot of grime build up. I cleaned it off and the car starts fine now. It has been good for the last couple of months.

In your case i suppose you had your electricity turn off at the "ON' position in your switch, while i don't see no difference than before, radio starts and front gauges panel light on too
