ebay chips
I've asked this question a few times and didn't really get a definite answer. I also emailed a few people that won these chips off eBay but never got any responses....so be the first on and buy one and test it for us....umkay?
The reason the guys on ebay aren't responding is because they're sorta shady and don't really want you to know what's involved. You have to desolder the stock rom on your ECU and then solder in a socket to house the new rom. Realisticly anyone with soldering experience can do it but if you don't know much about soldering you're SOL. The programs they're selling are usually available online if you just look hard enough, but then you need someone to burn it on an eprom for you. If you need ecu work done, email me, I can do any custom vtec x-over settings or rev limiter settings and I'm far more reasonable than most places.

Not all selelrs are shady. I have bought many, and soldered many in. We had someone dyno a before and after with one chip. I will look for the numbers if interested..

I wish someone would buy one and test it out! I would, but I only have one car...my REX and I use it to deliver pizza 5 days a week!.........for $20 or $30 on eBay, if it increased HP......that would be great!
Not that many Hondas actually make more power with just a chip, at least without dyno tuning. If you're running a pw0 or pr3 ecu you'll see an increase if you have the vtec crossover pushed up about 400 rpm or so. Another way a chip will increase HP is if you have cams and slightly bigger injectors. Personally when I chip someone's ECU I suggest they get cams and beef up their valvetrain in order to rev out higher. CTR cams, for example, make power best with a program close to CTR maps that REVS OUT TO 9000rpm.
I bought an ebay chip for my auto PR3. I bought it so I wouldn't have the wrong vtec x-over, rev limiter, and speed limiter. But the lowest rev limiter I could find was 8600rpm. Not ideal but pretty close. I noticed a little difference in power, but that's mostly because I started with an auto ECU and vtec x-over was really bad cause I don't have an auto engine; ie cams etc.
if you're trying to IM me I'm still not a full member yet so it won't work, just use my email for now

Oh yea and I've done a few dyno runs on a 1st gen b16a with a pr3. Its got CTR cams, portflow retainers and ITR inner springs, and even without digging them out I can tell you that the real increase in HP comes from the extended revs. There were spots in the curve where HP dipped or went above, but overall it wasn't as big of a change as I expected. This was with a mugen pr3 program that I modified with a higher vtec crossover (pw0 and pr3 are way too low normally) and a 9200 rpm rev limit.
