Took off Intake Camshaft cant get camgear TDC align GSR
So i took off the valve cover and was starting to take apart the valve train on a GSR thinking there was sparkplug tube o rings underneath the valvetrain. I got to taking the intake camshaft off and the camgear, so when i put it back, my TDC is way off . i lined up the dizzy head with the camshaft so the dizzy rotor is facing cylinder #1 but i can't align the marks on the camgears to TDC. for example the intake cam up arrow will point to cylinder 3 while exhaust cam up arrow will point up to cylinder 1. Any help pls ? b18c1

there will be a wood-ruff key that holds the gear in the correct spot if you have that don't worry, ignore the distributor when setting tdc it's all about the crank pulley and gears.
well everybody tells me the distributor has to be exactly on cylinder 1 , but sense i messed up everything by pulling out the intake camshaft and removing camgear, i cant get the correct tdc, only way possible is removing the timing belt, and flipping the camshaft by hand so the distributor rotor is at cylinder 3, other then that i have no idea how to get TDC, and yes i do have the crankshaft pulley key, and the crankshaft is lined with the arrow next to the yamata
Please leave the distributor out of this I have no idea why someone would say that. I meant the woodruff key for the cam shaft since you took the gear off make sure that's it's in place in the gear(inside the gear per-say).
First
unloop the timing belt from both gears
bring the #1(closest to the t-belt) cyinder to TDC(there's 3 marks on the crank pulley and one on the t-belt over, use the middle mark(iirc))
undo the tensioner and loop the belt over the 2 gears pointed "UP"
tighter the tensioner
spin it by hand 3 times to see that it's still in time
another way to set the cylinder to TDC stick a long 3/8 dr extension down the plug well and at the highest point that's TDC keep it there.

i havent notice it , i didnt take the key out hopefully it didnt fall out.
when you say undo tensioner and loop the timing belt on the 2 gears, does that men remove the tensioner but keep the belt on the crankshaft , water pump and cam gears? also cylinder 1 is at TDC right now , i used zip tie into the spark plug tube and brought it to the highest point thats TDC for cylinder #1

right now exhaust cam up arrow is up and intake arrow is at cylinder #4 , ( i only took intake camshaft out didnt touch exhaust cam)

what do you mean "it's at #4" the #4 cylinder i closest to the distributor it should be pointing up too ignore the whole distributor pls

This is not current just example how they are off .<br/>right now the exhaust UP arrow is at cylinder 1 and intake up Arrow is at cylinder 4. i took the belt off and rotated the cams counter clock few times but dont line up
And also when i did timing belt ofcourse i changed out the tensioner its 92 EG with GSR swap i took the left motor mount off and droped the engine on a jack, so its a little bit easier to work on, and the tensioner is loose so it can move around a little bit
Here is a video of whats going on

make both of them so the arrow is UP if the one doesn't stay up is sounds like you lost the woodruff key. It seriously sounds like it's the woodruff key
i dont think i lost the key , it doesnt align because i hand turned the intake cam so it would fit on the distributor on cylinder 1, because when i align the camgears on cylinder 1 at TDC the distributor rotor would be at cylinder 3, people told me it has to be at cylinder 1 so i removed the cam and manually rotated it and the dizzy. then i installed the camgear back on and bolted it in and lost TDC
The "Up" marks should be doing exactly what it says to do, facing up. Another back up is to see if the small slits on the gears itself are facing each other when the up position is indeed facing up. The distributor shouldn't matter, you don't have to time it. You only make sure it's timed correctly when you take it off without messing with the engines mechanical timing (taking off the belt). Have the crankshaft pulley aligned with the lower timing belt cover if you still have it on.
Just stop with the ******* distributor holy **** nowhere does it say that's how you set TDC in the FSM/ALLDATA/Mitchell, I told you the correct way.
First off bro quit trying to start it!!!!! THESE ARE INTERFERENCE MOTORS IF ITS NOT IN TIME YOU WILL HAVE PISTON TO VALVE CONTACT!!!!
If it is what you have been describing with the cam gears being way far off then please please please quit turning the motor over until you have it timed correctly. Honestly not to be a hater but it sounds like you might need someone to help you out with this in person, but I know how it is to DIY and learn from mistakes thats how i learned a lot of my knowledge.

there is two step by step guides on how to change a timing belt, and you are basically on the last step. Getting you cams aligned properly with all markings on cam gear aligned ( up facing up and small marks facing each other and lining up with timing belt cover) and reinstall belt. Sorry you opened such a can of worms on an attempted valve cover gasket repair. Do research before you ***** nilly dive into your engines head!!
ALSO like the other guy said DISTRIBUTOR HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS TAKE IT OFF AND FIX TIMING AND THEN IT ONLY GOES BACK IN ONE CORRECT WAY

lol i only try to start it 2ce before i did all this today, i did valve adjustment .003-.005 inch intake , .006-008inch exhaust camp clearance, new tensioner, and timing belt, and i had oil in the sparkplug tubes so i replaced the o-rings, and somebody told me i have to remove the valve train because there were o-rings underneath , turned out there isnt on B - series only on D, F, and K, thats when everything got off timing and downhill.
Thank you guys Car starts, Had to turn the distributor 180 * and it went to cylinder 1, and b swap 93 was right the woodraff key fell , found it and put it back on the cam pulley, instlled belt , tensioner , water pump, adjusted valves and it started . now im back to my original problem, car bogging down while driving , ill just make a new thread . Thanks again!
