Default 90 Civic Si B16 hesitation

I recently completed a b16 motor swap in my civic. I am using a PR4 ecu converted vtec and socketed running an HA motorsports chip with ELD disabled, Vtec pressure solenoid disabled, and o2 sensor disabled.

If I drive the car without hitting vtec it runs and drives fine (minus surging at times). however, after I hit vtec the car starts to idle lumpy like a rotary and I experience misfire and hesitation from idle to 3000 rpm. I find this quite strange I only experience this problem after running in vtec. If i turn the vehicle off and restart it, magically the problem disappears.

Please give me some suggestions.

Thanks

Is there a check engine light?

If the one on the dash is not lighting up, check for the LED flashing on the ecu in the passenger floorboard.

Thank you for your response! I have no CEL's. initially when I first started up the car it has a "stock" b16 basemap. Code 20 (ELD) and Code 22 (Vtec pressure solenoid). So to fix these codes i ordered a p30 basemap from HA motorsports to delete both of these codes so I could run Vtec.

With the stock basemap chip my car does not have this problem, but i can't hit vtec because of the codes.

I literally have no clue what could be causing this because if i don't hit vtec, the car drives great at low speeds. No issues.

However, after I've run vtec, I get that weird lumpy idle and misfire and hesitation from idle to 3000 rpm...

I would go back to the chip that gave you the vtec oil pressure switch code and replace the oil pressure switch itself. I didn't have any cel's on my dash (90 si with b16a and obd0 b16 sir ecu) but at the ecu it was throwing a vtec pressure switch code and vtec was engaging at random, I changed the switch and problem went away, its probably throwing a code because it legitimately had bad sensors, bypassing them with a tune rather than replacing them sounds kinda off to me....... don't know if that helps at all but atleast you know people are still reading your post

Im glad you solved your issue with a new pressure switch!

My Vtec solenoid doesn't have a pressure switch, i think some solenoids came without one, for example, some USDM solenoids.

Thanks for your advice. I have definitely thought of going back to the stock b16 chip and adding the Vtec solenoid with a pressure switch, however I would still have code 20 ELD.

I guess my only other option is running the stock b16 chip and getting crome, the connections necessary, and the rom burner to use the stock b16 rom and delete the ELD.

Any other theories/suggestions to why my car would do this?

This problem you're having is confusing. Your first post says you have disabled the vtec solenoid?

If you Google "Vtec Solenoid Pressure Switch", you'll get a variety of results.

One of which is instructions on how to by-pass, or "trick" your ecu into thinking it's receiving a good signal from a pressure switch. This involves jumping two ecu pins together, or alternatively jumping the harness plug under the hood.

Have you tried this?

Yeah in my first post I called the pressure switch pressure solenoid, but one could assume what i meant. Trust me, I researched extensively before i posted this. I know how to jump the wires to trick the ecu, but that does not help me, as I said, I would still have an ELD code. Did you read my other posts on this thread? lol. Thanks for trying to help though.

I guess no one has an explanation for my civics weird behaviour.

Sorry, I should have specified I have a canadian EF which did not come with an ELD in the fuse box. So i need the ELD disabled on any chip I run.

I know how to correct the problem. Im mainly looking for theories/inputs to why my car would behave the way it is.
