No if you wanna do it right get a full exhaust system, yes this means header. Now what brand? Depends on your pockets. If you have anything less than 400 I'll just say having a shop make custom piping will be cheaper.

You want no cel? Keep the cat...

^ How do you recommend to keep the cat, while replacing the header, without a CEL, and including the full exhaust for under $400? The cat is built into the exhaust manifold on the D16y7. He could convert to a Y8 setup but it wouldn't be worth the time and money. It's not going to give a performance benefit anyway on a stock y7.

This entire discussion is stupid. It's been had a million times before. It's in the FAQ sticky. Let's just go ahead and kill this thread, and leave it at that. If OP is too lazy to read the FAQ sticky before posting, he obviously has no respect for our time, so let's save our time and not bother.

The only way that is a win is if you are racing a yugo. A stock Toyota camry 4 cylinder is faster than a sohc vtec car

Again keep it stock

This. OP, I can point you towards some great aftermarket original equipment replacements that are a perfect fit. The d16y7 is great for mileage, I average around 40mpg. Let me know if you want pointers on how to try and stay slow, instead of trying to be fast but failing.

Save your money for something better.

OP wanted exhaust suggestions, that's what I gave him. I even gave you my reasoning behind it. If you're a stock system implier, then why didn't you stay away from this thread? Ohhhh to go against the op.

The **** does that have to do with anything? And since we are bench racing, how would a exhaust not help?

Oh and a stock Subaru is faster than your yota. See how dumb that sounded?

I'm actually 50/50 on this one. I try to just answer questions as I see them and keep it relevant to the OP's inquiry. Everything stated is valid (with respect to this thread) but I think most people are forgetting the "fun" aspect which will vary from person to person. If it's what the OP wants let them do their thing.

I believe he could've googled around to his specific car. There are exhaust systems for the dx model.

Thats why I even replied, I know the fun factor and it sounded like that's what OP wanted.

Alright I want provide my experience about this matter, to the OP I suggest you keep the stock system. I agree with all of you advising against it. I have to admit that I did not follow the advise 86azms3 have me earlier this year when I was rebuilding my Car and decided to get an eBay header as a replacement for a cracked header on the stock D16y7 cat.

I currently have an exhaust leak from joint where the J portion of the header connects and in addition the second 02 sensor port have the wrong angle which makes the 02 sensor hit the Axle when installed. At this point I am considering just getting a D16y7 cat and J pipe or try to work with what I have and get a Y8 cat..

You go and buy a eBay header and expect it to be good? Nobody has to advise against aftermarket exhaust, it's all about what brand you choose. Buy eBay, and you'll have it rust out in 4 months... I mean rust all on the hangers, piping, etc. Buy quality, as I suggested like yonoka and you'll have quite a improvement from stock. I don't see how anybody can not suggest that.
