I've made a terrible mistake *CF Hood restoring how to*
Hey guys so I've made a terrible mistake of buying a used VIS Evo style hood last night.
It's not in terrible shape but it's nowhere close to nice either
Structurally it's good, there are no cracks that I can see. Minor chippin on the edges by the firewall.
The worst part is that it's been spray painted and in some areas the fiber weave can be seen/felt.
I may or may not put this on (still have my stock hood thank god) but I figure it'll be a fun side project.
I know it will take a **** ton of sanding and some bondo work before it's ready to be painted (or wrapped)
What I need help is getting the prepping materials. I dont think regular sand paper is sufficient, in some areas the spray paint is THICK
What kind of sanding block should i get? (grit?) where do I get these?
Is bondo work something I should attempt??

Sandpaper should be enough in my opinion. If you want to strip it completely then start with 80 grit or something. If I was you I would lever everything out with 120, then put a layer of rage, sand with 120-220-320, then primer filler. Sand that to 600, and then ur base/clear or single stage.
Flex nuts all over the hood = layer of rage
Um, other than that, I watched a video on youtube :

mine is in much worse condition though because of the layer(s) of spray paint the p.o did as well as various pitting and chips

Carbon Fiber doesn't just have clear shot onto it, it has a resin/gel coat put on first. Usually, this is actually what starts to fade and turn yellow, not the clear coat. If you are trying to restore it to original carbon fiber, I would suggest taking it to a legit body shop and having them cut and buff it.
If you're going to paint it, just clean it, rough it up, and spray it.

Just asked two painters
They said anywhere from 2-250 to fix and paint it EBP
That's not bad!
And now we think...........
