Default Starter whine after Fidanza Flywheel install (solved)

I just finished rebuilding and installing my transmission (SG8-S20) with a Fidanza flywheel and exedy clutch, when I go to start the car it makes a terrible whining sound, especially once the engine actually starts. I started to freak out a little thinking I did something wrong and began to do some research. I found plenty of people with this same issue but no one really had an answer for how to fix it.
Turns out the whining is from a misaligned of the starter and flywheel. The starter is engaging too much and causing the ring and starter gear to interfere. I found that by adding a few washers as shims between the starter and transmission I completely got rid of the terrible sound!!!
Just wanted to share this with you all in case you'r stuck with the same problem. Also if anyone has any feedback on if this is a right way to fix this issue, or any potential problems with this fix please let me know

An update... I think I know why this may have happened! I have a 97 Civic clutch/flywheel in my 97 Del Sol transmission. The ring gear is the same size, but the clutch is much smaller on the Del Sol. (Its the same clutch used in the 88 cable transmissions.) There must be some clearance issues with the starter and ring gear when you install the larger clutch in a transmission that requires the smaller one. Anyone know if this is right?

Do you have pics to prove the del sol clutch is smaller? I couldn't see how. They are literally 2 of the same things transmission and clutch wise. Say if they're both y8 motors, why would one clutch need to be smaller than the other? They're both grabbing to a y8? Eh.

And yet, the 96-97 Del Sol S and SI have their own clutch disc part number.

22200-P2Y-005 for the 96-97 Del Sol S/SI
22200-P2E-013 for the 96-00 Civic (all, non-SI)

The flywheels are also different part numbers. According to Exedy's parts catalog, the Del Sol uses a 200mm clutch disc, whereas the Civic uses a 210mm clutch disc.

Exactly! Not sure why this makes a difference when you change the flywheel clutch and pressure plate all together, but my starter didn't line up right after the install. Im guessing the 97 Del Sol flywheel is also a different thickness than the Civic's.

It looks like the P# for the 94-95 S is the same as the P# for the 93-95 DX/CX, and the P# for the 94-95 SI is the same as the P# for the 93-95 EX/SI, and all 92 trims, as well as the 92 Del Sol S and SI. 92 for the 5G Civic gets...really ******* weird.

The Del Sol was looking straight at the door in 96-97 so Honda just gave it the left over parts and cleared stock...
