I recently had an issue with my 2000 Honda Civic EX 1.6L cranking but not starting. A friend of mine thought it was the cables and/or spark plugs so replaced those but still couldn't get it to start, and in turn killed the battery. After researching the issue, I decided it was mostly likely a bad ignition coil so I ordered one. In the meantime, I tried to jump start the civic. However, when trying to crank it, the dashboard went black and all the electrical that is activated by the key stopped working.

Currently, the headlights and the horn (and any electrical that doesn't require the key being turned) work, but nothing happens when I turn the key. If I turn it all the way (as if to crank it) a single clicking noise occurs near the fuse box under the hood.

Thus far, my research on this issue has returned very little. Any help on this problem would be greatly appreciated!

 

it could be the ignition switch shorted or something happen to the wiring to it, could also be a fried ecu.

 

You replaced battery cables? God back and check all of those connections. Put some dielectric grease on them to ensure a good contact.

If you have no luck there, double check your grounds. Same thing, clean them, add dielectric, reattached.
