I just chipped my p06 ecu aswell as vtec conversion, last night. Im good at soldering and i know my soldering points are good. With a p28 basemap i know the car should start but no it doesnt. The cel stays solid (code 0) fuel pump doesnt prime. I tried this ecu on a 92 civic and my sisters 95 civic n both cars do the same thing even my 99 civic with obd2b to obd1 harness. I even cut the j1 jumper n still does it. This ecu came off my sisters 95 civic n it always worked till i chipped it. Lol. I used Xenocrons chip kit with their vtec conversion and for some reason they say the 2 ceramic capacitors are no longer needed. All they gave me was a c14 main capacitor to replace n so i replaced it. Are those ceramic capacitors really needed or not?? 11F0 board. P06 ECU. All cars work with their own ecus so i know its the ecu. All capacitors are in tact n not blown. Wtf is going on!???!!!

 

Wouldnt this be a question for Xenocron since its their instructions and kit?

 

Try another ecu and see if your car starts, even the automatic ecu you had previously. If your car starts its your handy work and you're gonna have to solder that alone.

 

all the cars start up fine with other ecus. i kno its the ecu n i read up on it they all say its bad capacitors. i wanna kno if c51 and c52 capacitors are needed since it didnt come with the kit. n i just realized i forgot to jump j10 but thats for vtec conversion.. can that be my issue???

 

Do they look exploded? If the ecu worked before and all you did was solder a socket than it should still run. But if you fubered something that you weren't sure of than you need to go back and make sure your solder isn't making contact with another.

Code 0 means bad ECU, simple as that. You say you know your solder is good, but that looks sloppy as hell. You messed up your ECU.

 

It looks extremely bad. It looks like you most likely lifted multiple tracks. Have a professional do it next time, it is rather cheap to have done.

 

To me it looks like the black stuff is just the rosin burning up from the rosin core solder that i used. I checked with customer service at Xenocon n they even said its a decent solder job. What if the main capacitor is bad? C14 since thats wat they gave me to replace on my board. It worked fine prior to that capacitor

 

You are missing the jumper at J10.
If you cut the jumper at J1 and it still gives code 0 (solid CEL light on), then you know the problem is with the VTEC conversion component socketing, not the chip or 74HC373 IC socketing.

Xenocron is correct, the .1uf capacitors at C51 and C52 are not absolutely necessary.

 

The missing caps are not your problem but they help keep electical noise at bay.

 

Vtec components will NOT cause code 0, unless you have some stray solder strung over the wrong via.
On the same token, a bad 373 latch can still cause code 0 even with J1 disconnected.
Likewise, bridged pins on either the 373 or the socket can also cause code 0.
Use a continuity/ohm meter, there should be NO continuity between any adjacent pins on the latch or the socket.
If this checks out, clip all the pins off the 373 and pull each one out individually, desolder the vias (CAREFULLY with a 35w iron) and install a new 373.
If that doesn't fix it, replace the main capacitor, it may be defective.
Otherwise, just start over. Maybe purchase one that's already chipped.

 

Another tip for ECU chipping is that you want to remove all the clear coating from the areas of the ECU that you will be altering prior to soldering. All you need is a few squirts of carb cleaner and an old (soft bristle) toothbrush.

 

did you test the ecu before modifying it to make sure it worked?

 

A for effort on trying to install a DIY Ecu Chip Kit & Vtec Conversion on your own.
From the pictures I see one obvious trace that is damaged.
If you run a skywire to re-connect the trace you maybe able to fix the issue.

Also the 0 ohm jumper at j10 for your vtec conversion kit is not installed.

 

[FIXED] Hey guys sorry for the late reply but I actually got it fixed a few weeks ago lol it was the main capaacitor was soldered on wrong. All i did was scrape off some of the green coating to expose the coper tracks n solders on to that. Works just fine now n starts right up. N yes the board worked just fine b4 chipping it as it came out of my sisters old honda lol
