throttle sticking
I already tried searching and none of the topics had the same kinda problem as me
ok, when im driving the car, ill touch the gas and let my foot off, and the RPM's will stay up. it diesn't keep climbing, it just stays at a constant speed.
the only ways ive found to bring it back down is either if the car isnt moving very fast, push the brake to put a load on the engine and it eventually comes back down, or i have to keep snapping the throttle. it does this in neutral too, not just while moving
I'm pretty sure its not the cable itself, because the lever on the throttle body is coming back to idle, so its gotta be something inside. although i could be wrong about the cable
anybody ever had this problem or know what to do?
thanks
edit: this is the stock engine and stock throttle cable, i just had the engine pulled out for the winter to do some maintenance

maybe your throttle cable, try replacing it, if its not that, check your TB where the throttle cable attatches, it sounds like its stuck or sticking, most likely it sounds like the throttle cable is sticking.
lol,
im not sure its not the throttle cable, i mean the car ran fine with that cable for 14 years,
how hard is it to switch a cable anyways? and any idea how much itll cost, cause i dont want to spend too much money and still have the same problem
any other ideas anyone?

same thing happend to me before in my old car. it was the throttle cable.it was kinked...also spray the part on the throttle body that the cable attatches to down real good with wd 40. that helped in my case also.
hmmm. maybe i should replace that throttle cable, although if it was the cable, wouldn't i be able to pull the pedal up with my foot to bring the idle back down? cause the pedal itself is coming right back up.
HAHA dude that sounds like my first CRX i had when i would step on the gas it would release up but not all the way so i would have use my toes to pull it up from underneith......never did figure it out.

yeah now my 90 civic was in storage and when i pulled it out it the throttle was sorta weird....(the opposite of my CRX problem)
It like i have to press on the pedal hard then it will soften up. At stop sights and in stop -n- go traffice my car is always jumping
.. ehhehheh but HEY it doesn;t have a problem with relaesaing all the way back up.

your problem was most likely your throttle cable, it was probably kinked or something.
your new problem, try spraying some wd-40 down the cable or something, it just needs to be lubracated.
so does everybody think my problem is the throttle cable? or is there something else it could be too?
i bought a 90 dx hatch last year for a beater and it did the same thing. let off the gas and rpms stayed up. i sprayed pb blaster on and around the return spring on the throttle body. the throttle plate was sticking open. i lubed it up good and steped on the gas a few times. never had the problem again
i have had the throttle body taken off and cleaned out, its like perfectly clean inside, although i didnt lube anything in it, just cleaned it.
Tortex, what exactly do u put silicon onto?
and i just checked, and the throttle cable is coming right back into position, so its not the cable thats sticking, its gotta be something inside the throttle body

i had the same problem for a while but then it just stopped doing it. but try and see if it is getting pinched where it goes into the firewall. good luck!
