Icon2 Opening connectors

This is an old Integra and many of the connectors are a bit brittle. It isn't helping that I can't find info on how they open. There's many different ones. So far just about every one I've had to undo gets broken.

Right now, I'm just trying to get the 8p and 2p on the distributor. They're upside down and I can't see how they work. I've already broken the 2p.

Anybody know where there some data on how the connectors open?

Thanks!

Disconnecting or unpinning?

Just disconnected. Sounds dumb, I know. So far I've broken nearly every connector I've had to undo. ...haven't lost any yet, but broken the latch on the sides......

These are the 2p and 8p connecting the distributor. No data I can find on how to open (disconnect) them.

These two are different then any I've seen elsewhere.

I've had trouble with old plugs best bet get some nitrile gloves and grip as hard as you can, next COMPLETELY remove the clips from each plug and gently use channel locks to pull them apart. The last suggestion is an acquired skill don't do it unless you fell comfortable with how much pressure you apply. When trying by hand use your thumb and index finger to try and wiggle them (in both hands) you'll see what I mean when you try they're pretty tough but don't pull near the wires AT ALL.

Yes, unfortunately one of my thumbs is ruined, so I can't use it near full strength.

What about a source for new or different connectors.....?

you're talking about the 2 distributor plugs right?, splicing in a new plug would be a big hassle. but if that's what you mean a junk yard or splice each wire one at a time and eliminate the plug but I don't recommend that.

I think you're right, but I even thought about bullet connectors. The wires aren't really long enough. I'd have to put new wires from inside the distributor. I've done lots of bullets connectors on many motorcycles. I'll try and get the plugs undone.

The 8p is very different. I have no idea how to unlock it.

post a pic of the plug clamps? I know the obd0 ones are round I just cant find a good pic online, could possible give a better suggestion that way.

best suggestion I have is remove any remaining part of the snap clamps I circled them in orange and use some pliers with a cloth in between the bite and the plug and pull they are just slip connectors. But those clamps on the round plugs are hard/

No visible snap clamps on the outside of mine. That's why I don't know what to do. I could take a photo. I'll take a photo and put it here. Might take a while.

Ok there is some side latch or something, but I don't think that's what disconnects it. There's another tab at the bottom, I'm guessing you've got to depress them on each side. Sorry, not well lit. I haven't taken them off the distributor mount because I don't want to move the harness wires around unless I have to.

As a general rule its much easier to separate them if you take them off the metal clip first.
