Hi, the distributor on my 1995 integra gsr has gone bad due to the harsh winter season.

I bought back a replacement one but I am having a very hard time taking off the distributor that's on my car right now. None of the plugs will budge. Is there a trick to it? I press and hold down the little clip and pull and it barely budges like something is still holding it back. From my previous experiences with distributors, it was just press and pull. With this distributor I am pulling as hard as I can.

Any pointers? I tried warming up the plastic a little with a blow dryer but that hasn't helped at all either.

 

they are just stuck.. you may want to try LIGHTLY prying with a screwdriver, but be careful..

there is no trick.. they are just old, and need some... uhh.. "finesse", if you will.. haha

 

yup a small flat head should help as a "pry"

 

I tried the flat head but there's a big enough gap where it's cant be pried anymore because the space is in between is too far apart. Any other ideas?

Edit: I worded that wrong. What happens with the flat head is it starts to bend the plastic rather then push it out.

You might want to get a rag and just pull it out from the top. with allllllllllllllllll ur might.

 

lol i had to partialy break mine to get it off but even half broken the connectors still work come to think of it i always have to break a small peice off of the hondas lol no finnes juts brute force

I just got it off and installed the new dizzy. Car won't turn over now but I'm going to solve that problem tomorrow. I think the battery is just drained from me taking so long to finally replace the dizzy.

 

Good luck. keep us posted. Also, was it hard to install your dizzy. Other then thay problem you had.

 

Nope, once I got out those plugs all I had to do was slip on the new dizzy and bolt it back on.

 

What plugs. the ones where the wire runs to the spark plugs

 

the plugs that connects the dizzy to the car.

 

How many bolts to remove to replace the distributor? I will be replacing my distributor real soon. The shop want $100 (labor) to replace distributor. thanks

 

Should be just 3 bolts and 1 or 2 harness plugs. Of course you need a timing light to get it timed correctly once you get the replacement on.

$100 for that... I guess they're including the time spent on getting the ignition timing correct.

 

So I guess the $100 charge is reasonable considering that I have no clue to correct the ignition timing anyway. thanks patrick.
