Default Do I need rear sway bar?

Hi Everyone,

I am new to this forum.
I have a 2000 Civic SiR (b16a2, North America).

The sway bar links are severed on the stock sway bar (due to rust). I need to fix them to get my car ready for summer driving (I can't register the car without fixing them, it won't pass the safety test). I have been all over RockAuto, and Majestic Honda, trying to get the lowest price on an OEM replacement for the links, but its just doesn't make sense to spend $50-70 per link when I can just buy a cheapo kit from Ebay or Alibaba for about $150. I have been very interested over the years with putting in a brand new lower control arm kit, complete with sub-frame brace and tie rod.

I guess my situation is... since the links are visibly severed, I won't pass the safety test. I am using this as an opportunity to go for a lower control arm kit with plans to exclude the sway bar from the equation.

My Question is: Do I need to include a sway bar in my aftermarket lower control arm/sub-frame brace setup? Will not having this part do any damage or have any noticeable difference with driving?

My car is just a daily driver, and I'm not looking to spend the extra money if I don't have to.

Thank you in advance!

It's not required. only the Si (USDM) and SiR came with them from the factory AFAIK so removing it would be like having one of the other 90% of vehicles like it on the road. it will have more of a tendency to understeer, theoretically. can't say to what degree, but it wouldn't be unsafe.

You also could remove the sway bar, and spend nothing to pass the test.

Then buy what you want when you can.
