Starter motor occasionally makes a harsh sound
About 30% of the time I start the car, my starter makes a horrible grating sound. It was suggested to me that this means the gear in the starter is not retracting properly from the flywheel. Is this correct? Any experience with this problem folks?

Very common especially with cooler/cold weather, you could take it out and grease the heck out of the gear teeth, or replace it
