Default Spare Tire Area Leak.

hi im wondering if any of you guys have this kind of leak? i know its common for civics to have a tail light gasket go bad on them. i replaced them recently and i dont see any leaks coming around the taillights when my buddy sprays water on them. its a 00 civic coupe. i've checked the sunroof drain tube and its not leaking from there also the white bumper clips on both sides were leaking so i sealed them(minimal leaks now). when i pour water on the trunk i dont get any leaks even the spare tire well is dry only when i run the car in the rain where i get leaks. im not sure where its coming from? i also checked the bumper vent and its not leaking from there either. im running out of ideas where it could be coming from. possible underneath the body?

When you pour the water are you in the trunk?

Friends with garden hoses and you in the trunk is the best way to find it.

There are also plugs in trunks that can leak water when you are driving but only when you are driving. If this happens when the car is sitting then they are not the issue

The rear window may be leaking into the trunk.
Tape it up and hose it down to see if the leak is gone.

I lean toward 92ehatch's idea.

I had a 280z that got wet floors when driving but not when sitting in the rain. Finally found a rubber body plug with a crack in it. Water spraying under the car pushed through it but sitting still it couldn't.

They are in the trunk. Under the sound deadening material. Take out the spare

Also take out the inner trunk linings and look into the fender Wells for water. Could be tire spray coming in that way. Any rust in there would be a sign

My suggestion is. Take out spare and trunk lining. Dry up everything. Next rainy day set out on an adventure..preferably with the cat..the cat in the hat.

Pull into a dry area and inspect where water is. It will leave a trail

Check the body seams that run from the rear windows at the corners to the trunk opening lip, and at the outer corners of the trunk. They commonly develop fractures after this many years. Here are a few pics of mine after i repaired them.

yup ive sealed those cracks even the one on the top weather stripping where it meets the rear windshield. the leaks arent running thru the side of the body tho like its only at the spare wheel area no traces of it coming from the side and from the tail light and its only when when im driving in the rain but when it sits while raining its dry.

Theres also 2 areas as you look into the trunk, put your head inside around the inner tail light areas.

Theres 2 round plastic caps about the size of a nickel that sometimes crack and fall out. Thats where i found mine was leaking. Just have to poke around and find it.

theres one on each side? or both on the same side? is it near the bumper vents?

Now my problem is that the trunk area gets wet ONLY when im driving in the rain but not when im parked while raining. so im guessing theres water going in through the under body of the trunk and underneath the sound deadening and to my spare tire well.

In your first picture. The plug we speak of is right under your text.

I still think its coming from somewhere else

PO of my car had drilled out the truck to keep water from coming in but a couple of the holes ALLOW water to pool.. so be careful if you drill holes in the tire area
