Rattles on cold-start. 2009 Odyssey
I have a 2009 Odyssey that produces rattling noise in cold start after an oil changed; it lasts from 1 to 2 minutes. The noise went away when the engine is warmed up. I am not sure what is the possible cause? Are there anyone have the same problem and found the solution?
Pull the valve covers and adjust the valve clearances. Otherwise without hearing it myself it could be anything like a loose exhaust heat shield or anything under the hood rattling
The rattling noise happened when the car got less than 70,000 miles. I bought the van brand new in 2009. Could it be the timing belt? It seems as the sound comes from the bottom of the engine on the right side. In warm weather, it does not rattle much, but in cold or very cold morning, the rattling noise is terrible. The colder weather, the longer it rattles until the engine is warmed up.
I would say its likely the t-belt tensioner. You can get a mechanics stethoscope and listen to the lower timing cover on the rear side you will hear it. You can get a stethoscope from harbor freight for like $7. Fix it asap you do not want the by to come off or jump.also look at the tensioner sometimes when leak enough it will appear oily. It sits right above the oil filter
