I've got a 97 CR-V LX Auto with ~120K. I've been having an issue for a while with it dying while driving. It is worse in the cold, and seems to only happen the first drive of the day -- usually within a mile from my starting point. When it dies, I have to let it set for 3-5 minutes and open/close the gas cap.

I have replaced the following:

* Ignition Switch (Recall)
* Spark Plugs
* Plug Wires
* Distributor Cap
* Distributor Rotor
* Ignition Control Module
* Thermostat
* Cleaned IACV
* Did Idle Relearn
* Fuel Filter
* Air Filter
* Recent Oil Change
* PCV Valve
* Brand-New OEM Gas Cap

On My To-Do List:
* Transmission Fluid Change
* Differential Service
* Accessory Belts
* Check catalytic for clogs

Based on everything I've read, my next step is replacing the fuel pump & strainer. Is there anything I should try first before making the jump to the fuel pump?

When it doesn't start does it get spark? If so what color? On all 4 plugs? Does it get fuel? What's the fuel pressure? Does the check engine light come on like normal when it doesn't crank for 2 seconds and cut off? Have you had a check engine light?

 

Fuel and spark haven't been checked while the issue is happening. It's always on the side of the road and I'm never prepared.

CEL behaves as normal, and I have gotten CELs before.

 

Mine used to do the same thing until i replaced the igniter, never had a problem after that.

 

I have had the same issue.. driving down the road and jus shuts off..
Replace ignition harness (dealer recall), replace the ignitor (icm) today. . So far nothing happen.. I had couple spear dizzy at home so I decided to replace it..

Eran if u happen to pen point the issue plz up date

 

adjust your valves. common problem on the first gen crv's.

 

Adjust valves also check base timing

I recently replace the ignitor with a spear one laying around this past Sunday. ..
And drove my v around alot lately and havent had any issues..
