2000 Civic EX Coupe Bad Clutch?
Hi all, so I'm going along and all of a sudden feel like the tranny skips, its feels like taking your foot off the gas and putting it right back on, it only does it sometimes, then when I got to put it in reverse and I let out the clutch the rpm goes up and down, I'm thinking it's the throw out bearing but I'm not really sure, does anybody know?
The description kinda sucks lol. Op, a slipping clutch will usually always slip under load like in 5th gear at 40-45 mph if you roll into the throttle hard and see the rpms shoot up but the car doesn't gain mph, then you have a slipping clutch.
More details on your problem will help us help you though. The first part of your post almost sounds like an engine misfire to me. The second part (in reverse) sounds like a possible engine idle problem. One things for sure, none of your post sounds like a TOB problem.

That's like using a bandage for a brown recluse bite. It'll hide the problem, but it won't actually fix it, and the problem will just get worse the longer you ignore it.
Is your car 100% stock?
The next time you're getting on the highway, while you're on the on-ramp, shift into second, and put your foot down. Keep your foot down up to the speed limit, or as close as you can get without bouncing the limiter. Pay close attention to your RPMs - when it does it's weird little "feels like you took your foot off the gas" thing, does the RPM spike, or does it die off? If the RPM spikes, your clutch is slipping. If it dies off, you have a misfire.
Your fluctuating idle is probably unrelated, but the fact that it only happens in reverse is odd, since you have a standard. Remove, clean, and reinstall your IACV, then follow the FSM procedures for idle adjustment and relearning.

Yeah your right, I got it a month or so ago (civic #4 for me) and a kid had it before me. some stereo stuff and a intake. not much more. I'm trying to bring it back to better life. I was going to clean the IACV on my days off this week. Thanks and I have to say "Mr NotARacest" you made my night when you put Mr. New Del sol in his place about forum etiquette . I cant remember when I laughed that hard. Kudos to you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
D16Y8 So I replaced my IACV, cleaned intake, drove to work this morning and it started skipping again, when I stop and put the car in N and/or hold the clutch in and give it a little gas the rpm's go up to 2500 and down to 1000, I shut the car off and start it up again and it's fine. It did not do it at all on the way home from work, (about 11 miles) that's the thing that's driving me crazy.
Did you replace the IACV with a known working and/or new one, or just a random one off eBay or out of a junk yard? Do you have a voltmeter? If you do, test this. It should be a smooth sweep. If it isn't a smooth sweep, replace your TPS - is has a dead spot.
