Default Fair asking price for a Del Sol I looked at today?

Well, this is the first in what will likely be many Sols I am going to look at in the next month. I saw it online and went to the dealer to check it out, mainly because I was curious what engine was in it. It was a 96, and they did not list S,Si, or VTEC. They didnt even list mileage, but they did list the asking price of $8588. From the other Sols prices I have seen, I thought perhaps It would be a higher mileage VTEC or a mid mileage Si. So I show up and the guy just gives me the keys and tells me I can check it out. I go to look at it, and notice that the paint is really faded on the targa top, mirrors, and the spoiler. So I'm thinking, this has to be a VTEC. I pop the hood and it is the D16Y8, so the Si. I then go to look at the mileage and it is 101,---. This price seems really high, as I think I would offer maybe 5500-6000 at the most. Kelley Blue Book says a VTEC model with only 77,000 miles should be around 8930, and an Si with the same miles would be around 8415. Everything besides the paint at spots looked fine, but I still dont think I should pay more than 6000 for this, also considering that Milano Red isnt exactly what I am looking for (In fact, I would settle for any color but that). Sorry so long, just wanted to get some opinions from some of the Sol owners out there.

Thanks

Daniel

Yes that is high, especially considering the miles. I've got a 93 Si and only have 94K on it. Shop around and definitely don't get a Milano red one because of the poor quality of that color. Hope this helps you some.

i just found a hell of a deal on a del Sol myself, i got a 93 S for $450, it's in decent shape, reverse is gone, and the riceboy that had it before spray painted Z3 fenders and a wings west front end with duplicolor, hoping it would match.

the first few i looked at were way to expensive for what they were, everyone wanted like $4k-$7k for them, none of which were Sis or VTECs. my advice, keep shopping, you'll end up finding a better deal

It took me about 6 months of looking to finally get the sol I wanted, which was a 94 VTEC model with middle mileage or so for under 10k.

I wouldnt pay that much for an SI model w/ that mileage. Dont settle for that model unless you are planning an engine swap. Try autotrader.com.

Yeah, I wont settle for this one. I wouldnt necessarily rule out an Si though, because I think I would throw the greddy turbo kit on it and then build up my spare d16z6 to throw in later and really raise the boost. My goal on that motor would be around 200-215whp, maybe more depending on the build. One reason Im really not that enthused about the VTEC model is the price. I think I would much rather by a 93 or 94 S model, with the color I want (captiva blue, samba green) and then swap later, maybe a b18 then turbo. Either way, the VTEC models seem to be really high priced and really hard to find. Anyways, Im gonna keep looking, thanks for the help guys.

Well, heres more news on my situation, I didnt want to create a new thread. I found a 95 S for $6995. I went to check it out and it is in almost PERFECT condition, inside and out, and its a nice frost white, with only 66k. The guy has to sell it because his company (US airways) is laying everyone off. So I hear this and know he will accept some lower offers. I test drove it, and it drives great! Much more comfortable than my CR-X. He said he would take 6,500, but I found a 94 VTEC for 7000, with only 79k. The only catch is it is Milano Red, which like I said I hate. Im debating trying to talk the white one down to 6000, or just buy the VTEC. There is a girl looking at the red one on Friday, so I may look at it after that. I know the VTEC is a great price, but the S for 6000 doesnt seem too bad either. I guess I need to check out the red one, but I have a feeling that the other guy will go down to 6000. What would you guys do? Here are my thoughts on pros and cons.

95 Frost White Sol S
PROS
Lighter than other models.
Beautiful paint.
Reliable til I could afford a swap, or just build up my d16z6 out of my rex and drop it in with a greddy kit, around 12psi maybe more with a different turbo. This is what I am leaning towards.

CONS
SLOW, I would have to swap.

94 Milano Red VTEC
PROS
B16!!!!

CONS
I would HAVE to paint it later, as I HATE red so much.

Sorry for the lengthy post, and I know it depends on the condition of the VTEC model, but I am still actually leaning towards the white one, mainly because of the paint. I really dont want to repaint the VTEC, but I would love to swap a fully built turbo d16z6 into the lighter weight S. Just curious if you guys thought these prices were fair and which direction you would go? Thanks again in helping me in the search for my Sol!!

yeah, IMO, an S for $6000 is a little steep

i know prices can differ per area, but i have seen much better cars go for less.... i once had some ******* camel jockey used car salesman try to tell me a 93 was the last year they made them, and that's why it was more, and he also said it was more b/c it was red, but i told him that he was a moron and that only mattered when it was new, b/c it now needed new paint

regardless, you could probably find a VTEC model for $6000, it may not be soon, but one will probably pop up
