Default Accel HST2 Install question.

I got a 97 Accord from my father cheap, He gave me an Accel HST2 super tune up kit with it. His mechanic claims it can only be used on VTEC engines, but Accel says its for non VTEC engines. I went to install the coil and noticed that it has a plug on the coil with three wires on it. The Accel coil just has two screw holes for positive and negative. I wasn't planning on using the clear distro cap, as I heard they have a tendency to melt. Any Ideas on how to install the coil. I had the kit up for sale since I thought I couldn't use it, and since no one emailed me on buying it I decided to install it instead.

Thanks!

You have to use the included distributor cap.

The difference between the VTEC and non VTEC ignition setups is that they use two completely different coils. VTEC uses an internal coil and the Non VTEC uses an external coil. If your setup originally came with an external coil you will have to use a VTEC (internal coil) distributor cap and make some wiring changes. if it already has the internal coil is should be plug and play and you don't ahve to use the Accel cap.

There are a few external to internal coil mod threads around on H-T.

Mine has the external coil, mounted behind the valve cover.

What I am wondering is how to use the Accel coil, because the coil that is on it now has a plug with three wires going into it. and the Accel coil has a spot for the positive and negative to screw on.

On the stock coil wire harness (connector) 2 of the wires are positive (+) and the third is the negative (-). You connect both of the stock (+) wires to the (+) terminal of the Accel coil and the (-) to (-).

Honestly, that was what I was thinking. Judging by the color of the wires, I was an assembler/technician for 6 years building transit buses. I just wanted to ask some folks who actually had hondas to be sure. Thanks.
