Tint adhesive off the back window....
Off the rear window with defroster, all that is left is the glue. So far I have tried EZ-Off oven cleaner, dishwash soap/water, ammonia and steam. The ammonia worked the best for taking off the second (clear) layer of tint but it wont do anything to the glue. I have also tried #0000 steel wool with all chemicals...anything else to try?
Goo Gone. Let it soak in before trying to wipe it off. Put some elbow grease into it.
Any kind of damage to the rear defroster wires will kill it.

I have the same issue. The old tint wouldn't come off completely, I'm now looking into a portable pressure steamer to really loosen up the rest of the glue.
The old tried and true method was to use a trash bag and ammonia..
Spray alot of ammonia on the glass, then lay the plastic bag over the ammonia.. let sit in sun for a few hours and everything should come off pretty easy.
leftover glue can be wiped off with steel wool but make sure to go with defroster lines and not across them.

crl quick release agent for stubborn glue, & glass cleaner to clean up afterwards.
CRL takes off almost anything, careful with rubber,it tends to dry rubber a bit.
You'll need rubber Wurth care treatment if you get CRL on it.
(Not "instadry", long term use).
Wear gloves, eye protection(since its a rear window) for back spray.

Best thing I ever did was steal my lady's clothes steamer to strip tint. If you're slow and patient it all comes off in one piece, a wipe with 75% Windex/25% ammonia will take the remaining residue off, and your fingers only get slightly burned. Didn't use a single razor blade or anything abrasive.
If it came off in two layers as you described, you're already kinda F'd on that method though. Keep working with ammonia based solvent and avoid abrasive anything.

I'm a auto trimmer. the steamers we use for work, would be ideal for removing tint. we use a steamer wand that pin points steam. so asking a trimmer might be a option.
